On the 17th, the Yamaguchi City Council held its first extraordinary session since the election, and elected Irie Yukie (70) = Mirai Shigyo Yamaguchi = as the Speaker, and Tomita Masaaki (66) = Furusato Kyoso Yamaguchi = as the Vice Speaker. Both are first-time appointees, and the city council is the first to have a female speaker.

It is customary for the Speaker and Vice Speaker to be replaced every two years.
